It is getting a little draughty in here!

The fans are switched on

Coming out of the festive break, the Project GRAID team returned to the Offline test rig at RAF Spadeadam to continue the testing. This time flow was added to the pressurised rig from fans that were installed when the rig was built, GRAID was then driven around in the closest conditions yet to being on a live National Grid site.

The results were very encouraging, the speed was increased to 6m/s and the robot did not report any particular issues at all which is fantastic news for the team. Being able to operate in these conditions is key for National Grid as it can become very costly to reduce flows on site to accommodate GRAID, so if this is not required the robot can be used on a greater variety of sites.
