Project GRAID first live site receives sanction

National Grid invests in the permanent connection site

With Project GRAID now heading into the live site trial phase, connection points on the National Transmission System (NTS) are starting to be constructed including the first location which is due to be ready for use in June. This location is ideal for GRAID as we can install permanent concrete bases which allow the team to return with ease and carry out an inspection.

Alongside the two concrete bases there will also be a location for the control cabin and the welfare facilities needed for being on site. This permanent facility will allow a long term testing area for GRAID when technology changes are implemented. The team have completed the National Grid defined safety assessments on the location and have highlighted all the possible risks, removing them where possible. This is a really exciting time for the team as we start to prepare our network to be robot inspection ready.
